There are Commercial opportunities for Landec's Intelimer® technologies outside of its two core businesses. To best leverage its resources, the Company's strategy has been to license its technology to corporate partners who are able to more quickly commercialize Intelimer¨ products in exchange for license fees and future royalties. These arrangements include Alcon Laboratories, Inc. for PORT® ophthalmic dry eye products, and Nitta Corporation and UCB Chemicals for certain industrial specialty and adhesive products.
IIn select application areas, the company has chosen to develop novel Intelimer polymers for sale either directly or through distributors. Examples of these Intelimer polymers for sale include latent catalysts and polymeric materials for personal care. The latent catalysts include latent cobalt catalysts for unsaturated polyester and vinylester resin cure and latent imidazole catalysts for epoxy resin cure. These latent catalysts deliver long pot-life, long shelf-life and fast cure. The polymeric materials for personal care include additives for skin care, sun care, color care and hair care applications. These polymers can be Landec's standard materials or a custom designed polymer to meet the specific customer application requirements. The Intelimer polymers deliver oil phase thickening to stabilize lotions and creams with an attractive feel. The hair care polymers are designed to deliver styling and restyling properties in response to temperature change.
