 Apio Tech is a division of Landec’s Apio food business. Apio Tech focuses on developing innovative packaging solutions using Apio’s proprietary Breatheway® membrane technology. Apio Tech sells packaging products to leading produce suppliers. The first commercial partner for Apio Tech is Chiquita with initial product sales to food service customers under the Chiquita To Go™ label. Landec’s Breatheway technology extends the shelf life of bananas by 7 days. In addition, Chiquita is testing Breatheway technology in retail grocery stores in Breatheway consumer packs. The U.S. banana industry represents over $4 billion in annual purchases by consumers.
