Landec Ag Intellicoat® Seed Coatings Landec Ag (www.landecag.com) has developed and is commercializing its temperature activated, Intellicoat seed coating technology designed to increase crop yields and extend a farmer's crop planting window. These seed coatings can be applied to corn, canola, cotton and soybean seeds. According to the U.S. Agricultural Statistics Board, the total planted acreage in 1996 in North America for corn, canola, cotton, and soybean seed exceeded 79 million, 10 million, 14 million and 64 million acres respectively. Landec Ag seed coatings can be designed to lower overall seed production costs, allow double planting of crops or increase crop yields and extend the planting season by preventing seeds from absorbing water when the soil temperature is cold enough to cause biological damage to them. When optimal soil temperatures are achieved, the seed coating "switch" is activated and water is allowed to safely penetrate the coating for absorption by the seed. The Company plans to initially develop seed coating products for the corn, soybean, and canola markets.
